Things We Said Today

Hello everyone

Even though the Health and Social Care Bill hasn't finishes going through Parliament yet some of the changes affecting LINks are becoming clearer. Here are a few to start off with.
Local HealthWatch will be an independent organisation, employing its own staff, submitting accounts and so on.
Members of the Local HealthWatch Executive Board will be appointed not elected. There is likely to be an application and even possibly an interview process. Current LINk members may be offered a role as associate members or similar.
Local HealthWatch will have a seat on the newly formed Health and Wellbeing Boards (In many areas these have been set up in shadow form with a LINk member, often the Chair, currently sitting).
Local HealthWatch will provide information to support patient choice, either directly or by signposting.
A new body, HealthWatch England, is being set up to provide leadership guidance and support to Local HealthWatch organisations.
Many current functions of LINKs such as engagment and enter and view will continue transferring to the new organisation.
There are still many unanswered questions as to how this is going to work. I hope to be able to give more detail over the coming months as it becomes clearer. LINks are currently funded to the end of March 2012 so with Local HealthWatch not starting before October there is a gap in funding that needs to be addressed to enable a smooth transition.
My aim over the next few months is to support the transition while still maintaining the work of LINk. We are lucky enough to have some great volunteers as LINK members here in Trafford, I hope they will be able to offer the same skills and experiences to HealthWatch.

And finally..........

There has been a theft at Euro Disney. A man has been charged with taking the Mickey.
Bye for now

Ruth

Paperback Writer

Hi everyone!
The title this time relates to our annual report which hopefully you will have seen on the website and those of you are members of Trafford LINk wil be receiving in paperback form (see!) in the next week or so.

Revolution 9

Hi
Its been a while I know!

I've been to a couple of quite different NHS Listening Events. The Future Forum reports to the Cabinet mid June. We will know then how genuine the listening exercise has been and what changes to the bill are going to be made. I think the timescales are going to be put back as Parliament goes into recess during July and then isn't back until October.

Revolution

Hi everyone!
The Health and Social Care Bill will revolutionise the NHS. For better or worse, everyone has their own opinion.
We are still waiting to find out how the transition from LINk to HealthWatch will take place and are not likely to know until March. Watch this space!

The Long and Winding Road

Hi everyone.

Across the Universe

Hi everyone

Perhaps "Universe" is a bit over the top but we are certainly getting hits from all over the world on our website.

Since the last blog we have completed our consultations around the White Paper. Thanks so much to all of you for completing the questionaire. All the responses were collated and sent to the Department of Health.

All Together Now

Hi everyone!
I hope you have had a chance to look at the White Paper in one of its three forms. The White Paper itself is a long document, the "easy read" far too patronising (Ruth's opinion, not an official LINk one) so the Executive Summary is probably the best bet if you haven't loooked yet. All versions can be downloaded from either the Department of Health or this website (see downloads)

Blackbird

Hi everyone!

The observant ones amongst you will have noticed a new front page to the website. Those with a really sharp eye will also have noticed that we now have our very own Facebook page and that we are also now on Twitter. We can now tweet (hence the title to the blog). We are looking at ways to engage with younger people and this seems a good starting point.

Tell Me Why.....

Time passes so quickly....Its almost a year now I've been in post (yes really). Don't worry I'm not going into detail on whats happened in the last twelve months, it would send you all to sleep.

Eight Days A Week

Hi everyone. The extra day in a week would be really useful at the moment!
Since I last wrote, the election has been and gone. I was away in Scotland that week ( I had a postal vote, seeing how you asked). We are beginning to see where some of the cuts, which we all knew were coming, are going to fall. Where it is all going to end is unclear.
